CATTLE WELFARE

We believe that the animals we raise for food should have a good life. Cattle should be treated with dignity, respect, compassion and empathy. For us the Five Freedoms represent the usual (not the ideal) level of animal husbandry. (http://www.fawc.org.uk/freedoms.htm). We strive to provide optimum welfare. We believe that good animal welfare implies both the promotion and protection of Five Freedoms and must consider the nutritional, environmental, health, emotional, and behavioral needs of cattle as well as their mental state. The Five Freedoms are:

  • Freedom from Hunger and Thirst - by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigor
  •  Freedom from Discomfort - by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area
  • Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease - by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment
  • Freedom to Express Normal Behavior - by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind
  • Freedom from Fear and Distress - by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering

We also believe that animals as sentient beings. Click Here For Article
Animals, including cattle, are conscious and have the ability to feel, perceive and have subjective experiences. The evidence of sentience is supported by biological, medical, behavioral, evolutionary and welfare science. We strive every day to provide for the physical, social, behavioral and emotional needs of our cattle and to minimize pain, distress, and suffering.
